How To Hold On To Your Summer Glow
Staying Sunny All Year
We haven’t had much of a summer in the UK this year, so if you’ve been lucky enough to have a holiday abroad, or managed to gain a hint of colour in between downpours here, you’ll be keener than ever to hold on to that sunkissed glow. Sunkissed skin takes you into the winter months feeling healthier, and there’s no reason why you can’t keep it going with some clever bathroom principles. My 5 pointers will show you how.
1. Regular exfoliation:
It might seem counterintuitive, but exfoliation is the foundation step to maintaining a summer glow. In helping to remove dead cells that accumulate on the surface of your skin and make it look dull, it encourages cell turnover, bringing fresh, pink cells up to the surface to maintain radiance. Legology Exfo-Lite combines sea salt with Himalayan pink salt to deliver a super-crunchy and detoxifying scrub that leaves skin superbly soft and supple.
2. Good hydration:
Another cornerstone to maintaining healthy, vibrant and supple skin. In the summer, skin tends to lose moisture quickly because it’s more exposed to drying elements like heat and water. Counteract this by eating a diet rich in naturally hydrating foods like juicy fruit, crisp vegetables and nourishing soups.
3. Moisturise daily:
As the weather gets cooler and the heating goes on you’ll notice your skin looking a bit parched, especially in areas like shins, elbows and knees, where it can go quite scaly. This is where a good moisturiser comes in – one that deeply nourishes without making skin feel sticky. Use it daily, after every shower/bath, and use nourishing oils in the bath too (bath water can dry skin, especially if it’s hot).
4. Nourish within:
The foods you eat play a big role in the health and appearance of your skin. Eat lots of nutrient-rich foods that support your skin’s vitality – these include those that include antioxidants like vitamin C, beta-carotene and omega-3 fatty acids which combat oxidative stress and inflammation, keeping skin bright and glowing.
5. Move & sleep:
Exercise improves blood circulation, which, in turn, delivers essential nutrients to your skin cells. It also promotes your lymph, which is the body’s natural waste disposal mechanism, taking toxins away from the body to be metabolised by the organs. Similarly, as blood flow is promoted, skin gets a healthy pink glow as nutrient-rich blood rises to the surface. Sleep matters too because this is when your body repairs and regenerates skin cells, contributing to a refreshed and radiant appearance.
So summer may be on the wane (having barely experienced much of it in the first place) but you still don’t need to bid farewell to your radiant glow. Just give more priority to hydration, exfoliation and inner nourishment to keep yourself in the holiday bubble for as long as possible.
