US Round Trip

We started on the west coast and finished on the east!  And by the end of the first three days we had done over 500 miles in LA alone.  Yes, Legology hit the road in early February to seek out and train the valued teams in our US partner Bluemercury’s stores.  And we had a blast. 

Landing late afternoon on Saturday we were out and about in Griffith Park by Sunday morning, soaking up the sunshine – yes, sunshine! – and joining walkers up to the Observatory, where we were able to view the Hollywood sign across the valley, which sweeps out to the sea with all of LA in between.  It’s quite a sight.  No surprise it served as the location for famous movies from La La Land to Rebel Without A Cause. 

Five big dates that day – we sped from Griffith Park to Melrose Avenue filming a Legs Talk LA special series with Dan Hodgdon, founder of the regenerative haircare brand Vegamour, Nader Naeymi-Rad, founder of BeautyIndependent publication and events, Derek Warburton (aka Derek Fabulous), editor of Mr Warburton, Courtney Claghorn, founder of the hugely successful Sugared & Bronzed clinics, and our very own Patsy Palmer, who we filmed on a dusky beach in Malibu.    

We started our first day of training early at the Westlake Bluemercury store, then moving on to El Segundo and the Brentwood branches.  Beautiful shops, lovely teams and interested customers – we had a ball. 

Day three found us at BeautyIndependent’s Uplink Dealmaker Summit in downtown LA, hearing the crème of American entrepreneurship in beauty talking about their journeys to success, the challenges they experienced along the way, the highs and lows. 

Up to San Francisco, after a night at the Fashion Trust awards to visit the Chestnut Street and Laurel Village Bluemercury branches, and on the next day to Connecticut where we trained in Bluemercury’s brand new beautiful New Canaan store.  And finally into Manhattan in the Dodge Charger Avis gave us, to visit a further five stores.   

What didn’t we learn from this whirlwind?  That Americans are the most positive and hardworking beings, a joy to be with – a shot in the arm that should be prescriptive for everyone in the UK at least once a year, especially after the tumultuous time we’ve had with the economy and failing high street recently.  We knew the people we met would be as wonderful and uplifting and as they always are.  We just didn’t know how much we would appreciate it.
