Legs Talk: Tracey McAlpine

From redefining midlife to empowering women everywhere, Tracey McAlpine is proving that life after 50 is anything but slowing down. As the founder of @fightingfifty, she’s built a community that champions confidence, wellbeing, and embracing every stage of life with style and strength. Our founder Kate chats with Tracey about navigating midlife with positivity, her favourite rituals for feeling (and looking) her best, and the beauty secrets she swears by for keeping her legs—and outlook—radiant.

Kate: Welcome to Legs Talk. I am here at Battersea Power Station with the wonderful Tracey McAlpine. Tell me what the aim was with Fighting Fifty originally?

Tracey: So the aim hasn't changed. The landscape's changed, but the aim hasn't. It's to bring together really good information and expert advice for women over 50 on how to look good.

Kate: In that journey, tell me, what are the three products? Just the three. That you love?

Tracey: First of all, magnesium. I just can't be without magnesium. Usually by supplement. Helps you sleep. Helps you relax. Grounds your brain. Stops it overthinking. So magnesium, then SPF. Every day. Even when it's raining. I think nothing works properly if you are not caring for your skin with SPF and a beauty device. I love a beauty device. Radio frequency. Laser. Anything. The gua sha. The body brush.

Kate: What would you tell your younger self?

Tracey: Being tall is an advantage. I hated it when I was growing up. Also really, aging is a massive benefit. We're so lucky to age and I didn't appreciate it so much when I was younger at that time. I just kept thinking, oh, you know, I'm not old enough to do this and I'm not old enough to do that. Now I'm too old to do it. When I was younger, people used to say, you can't do things. And I'd quite like to go back and tell my younger self, oh yes, you can, you can reinvent yourself at 50 if you want to, you know, you can skydive at 70 if you want to.

Kate: Have you got a leg care routine?

Tracey: Absolutely love Legology. So dry brushing. Tons of moisturiser.

Kate: Do you find that your legs get a bit drier in this decade or beyond the fifties.

Tracey: They definitely get drier don't they? They really do.

Kate: Tell me about wellbeing your go-to habit that makes you feel good every day?

Tracey: I walk. I walk everywhere. My car does 3000 miles a year. It never goes out. But also I have a vibration plate. I think it kind of sets you up for the day. It's great for your legs, great for lymphatic drainage, so that's a favourite. But I also quite like a kettlebell session. Kettlebell squats. Dr. Michael Mosley said that if you do 30 kettlebell squats a day, you are doing a massive service for your body. Your legs. Your butt. Everything. So, 30 kettlebell squats a day.

Kate: Right, bring me a kettlebell. Finally, my last question for you. Who is your leg icon?

Tracey: Do you know anybody younger than me won't remember her? You might. Cyd Charisse.

Kate: Oh, totally I do.

Tracey: She was the first person that I really realised that legs were so attractive and so fabulous. I think she had them insured for 5 million pounds or something.

Kate: Fabulous. Tracey, thank you so much.
