HOW TO FIX OZEMPIC BUTT: HOW TO TIGHTEN SAGGY SKIN AFTER WEIGHT LOSS

Ozempic butt

Takeaways

  • Ozempic butt is an unwanted side effect after using weight loss jabs

  • Lose skin and sagging, deflated buttocks can lead to a loss of confidence and take away from the aesthetic benefits of having lost a significant amount of weight`

  • There are solutions, both surgical and non-surgical, to address Ozempic butt and restore and lifted and toned bottom

WHAT IS OZEMPIC?

Ozempic is the medication of the moment. As part of the Semaglutide family of drugs, it was first licensed to treat diabetes in the USA and UK in 2017. Recently though it has increasingly been prescribed to help people lose weight that has been previously resistant to conventional methods like exercise and diet.

How does Ozempic work?

Ozempic, and similar medications like Wegovy and Mounjaro, work by decreasing your appetite and limiting the calories you eat. It does this by mimicking a hormone called incretin which is produced when you eat. This hormone tells your brain that you’re full, stopping you from eating further. Semaglutide medication also increases the amount of time it takes for food to pass through the stomach, further reducing your appetite.

Not surprisingly, the impact of this for those who have struggled to lose weight previously is a significant loss of weight in a short space of time.

Is Ozempic safe?

When take under the supervision of a qualified doctor, Ozempic and other Semaglutide medications are entirely safe. But it’s important to follow the advice your specialist gives about taking Ozempic to achieve the desired results. If you are worried about the side effects it’s advisable to discuss these with your doctor thoroughly before you start the prescription.

In the UK and US, Ozempic is no longer licensed as a weight loss drug because demand driven by those looking to lose weight was creating shortages for those with type 2 diabetes. Instead the same drug (Semaglutide) has been approved for weight loss under the brand name Wegovy.

How to get Ozempic for weight loss

There are increasing online providers who sell Ozempic and Wegovy online. This can be appealing as an easy way to get weight loss medication, but it’s not always possible to verify whether these providers are legitimate, and it’s important to consult a doctor for a prescription that is tailored to you. It’s always best to speak to your GP, who will have access to your medical history and will be able to assess whether weight loss jabs are safe for you, about weight loss options first.

DOES OZEMPIC HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Among the side effects that you need to be aware of and discuss with your doctor are some significant aesthetic ones.

Ozempic weight loss side effects can include:

Marked loss of skin tone, giving a saggy appearance to the face and body – many patients have noticed that their buttocks are particularly prone to sagginess, giving rise to the term ‘Ozempic butt’.

  • Loss of muscle mass.

  • Reduced bone density.

  • Lowering of the resting metabolic rate.

It’s worth saying, however, that these side effects are not unique to fat jabs – they can occur alongside any rapid weight lossWe experience all of these effects – especially a loss of muscle function and strength – naturally with age, but quick weight loss seems to accelerate themOne of the ways to counteract this is to have a consistent exercise routine involving weight training, which a doctor should recommend alongside a fat jab prescription.

What is ‘Ozempic butt’?

The term has been coined to describe the skin slackening that happens with rapid weight loss with fat jabs like Ozempic, because many patients who have been taking the medication for weight loss or other Semaglutide medication have reported that with the fat loss the overlying skin hasn’t returned to its original position, leaving it looking loose and saggy, and this is especially noticeable in the buttocks.

The reason for this is the high density of fat in the buttocks, exacerbated if there is a decrease in muscle mass that affects the glutes – two of the largest muscles in the body‘Ozempic butt’ is characterised by these signs:

  • Sagging or losse skin around the buttocks

  • A deflated or hollow appearance to the buttocks

  • Buttocks hanging lower than they did before weight loss

These effects, although common with rapid weight loss, impact the patient with new insecurities about their bodies – while pleased to have lost the weight, many find they experience loss of confidence which prevent them from doing activities and wearing the clothes they had hoped to be able to wear with the weight loss.

Can you prevent ‘Ozempic butt’?

While loose skin is a known side effect of rapid weight loss, it does seem to be more significant when related to taking Semaglutide medication such as Ozempic or WegovyIt’s not fully understood why, but the best way to avoid getting a saggy bum after you’ve lost weight via weight loss medication is to make diet, body care and activity adjustments to your lifestyle while you take it.  These include:

  • Maintaining an exercise routine involving weight training (see box)

  • Discussing the possibility of a lower dosage of Semaglutide medication to slow the pace of the weight loss

  • Upping your body care routine – include body brushing in your routine, if you haven’t done this already, to promote the circulation and lymph, which will benefit skin toneAlways follow that with an application of a nourishing and lifting cream like Legology Air-Lite or Peach-Lite, especially to sag-prone zones like thighs and buttocks, to help support firmness by strengthening the collagen network of fibres underneath your skin.

  • Staying hydrating and eat a diet which is rich in protein to maintain healthy skin and muscle structure.

When you have experienced rapid loss in subcutaneous fat (the fat which sits underneath the skin) but not significant decrease in muscle mass, the exercises that help most with rebuilding the glute muscles and lifting buttocks include:

  • Squats – with or without weights

  • Glute bridges

  • Weight hip thrusts

  • Bulgarian split squats

  • Romanian deadlifts

Increased exercise should be considered before opting for alternative forms of treatment on offer such as radiofrequency microneedling, a surgical buttock lift, and fat transfer to your buttocks (a Brazilian butt lift).
